Abstract
ABSTRAK Korosi merupakan penurunan kualitas suatu logam yang disebabkan oleh terjadinya reaksi elektrokimia antara logam dengan lingkungannya. Dalam penelitian ini material yang digunakan adalah plat baja karbon ST 40 dan stainless steel (SS) 304 pada media korosi asam sulfat 1 M selama 48 jam. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode weight loss. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh asam sulfat (H2SO4) terhadap laju korosi plat baja ST 40 dan stainless steel (SS) 304, dan Mengetahui perbedaan laju korosi antara kedua material tersebut. Hasil pengujian laju korosi yang dilakukan dengan waktu 72 jam, didapat nilai rata-rata 3,69 mm/y untuk plat baja karbon ST 40, dan 0,18 mm/y untuk plat stainless steel (SS) 304. Korosi yang terjadi pada plat baja karbon dan stainless steel adalah korosi merata (uniforrm attack) dan korosi sumuran (pitting corrosion). Kata Kunci : Asam Sulfat, Korosi, Laju Korosi, SS 304, ST 40. ABSTRACT Corrosion is a decrease in the quality of a metal caused by the occurrence of electrochemical reactions between metals and their environment. In this study the material used was carbon steel plate ST 40 and stainless steel (SS) 304 on 1 M sulfuric acid corrosion media for 48 hours. The method used is the weight loss method. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) on the corrosion rate of carbon steel plate ST 40 and stainless steel (SS) 304 steel plates, and determine the difference in corrosion rates between the two materials. Corrosion rate testing results were carried out with a time of 72 hours, obtained an average value of 3.69 mm / y for carbon steel plate ST 40, and 0.18 mm / y for stainless steel plate (SS) 304.
