Abstract

Course book is become the common media in teaching and learning process. The course book itself contains with language skill include speaking, writing, reading and speaking. The researcher focused on analyzing speaking materials because speaking skill is one of the productive skills which is needed in students’ social life. Speaking skill is needed in students life in the way to communicate towards each others people. The research problem of this research is to know the quality of the speaking materials in course book entitled “BAHASA INGGRIS (STOP BULLYING NOW. STAND OUT. SPEAK UP) for XI Grade. This research was used descriptive qualitative research. The research was analyzed the data of speaking materials in the course book with the criteria of good speaking. The researcher only use some sub-chapters from the course book using purposive sampling. The instrument in this research was checklist table taken from combining collected data and the criteria of good speaking materials. The result of this research is that the quality of the speaking materials in course book entitled “BAHASA INGGRIS (STOP BULLYING NOW. STAND OUT. SPEAK UP) for XI Grade is “Fair”. Related to the result of the checklist table which are “Very Good” got 8 points, “Good” got 1 point, “Fair” got 9 points and “Bad” got 1 point. Supporting by the topic in speaking materials that can help students to built their good characters, this course book is good enough to used in teaching speaking materials for XI grade. Based on the checklist table and the topic in speaking materials in the course book.
