Abstract

This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Gondang in class X-Language with a sample size of 31 students. There were problems found by the researcher in the classroom, namely, students faced difficulties in generating ideas, expressing them in writing, and understanding grammar and structural aspects of composition. Therefore, the researcher used folktale media with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) method to solve the problem. This study aims to examine the effect of teaching narrative using folktales through CRT and to find out how students' perceptions of learning narrative texts using folktales through CRT. The method used in this research is a quantitative method, with a pre-experimental research design. The stages in data collection are pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The results of the validity test on the pre-test and post-test data have a sig. (2-tailed) <0.05. Furthermore, the hypothesis test shows Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.00 <0.05, means that Hα is accepted and Ho is rejected. Calculation of validity and reliability on the questionnaire shows that the data is valid and reliable because the r-count value> r-table. Based on the above statement, it can be said that learning narrative text with folktale media through Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) method is influential and gives an effect to enhance students' ability to write narrative text.
