Abstract

The performance of the Power Plant as a whole is determined by the value of the Net Plant Heat Rate (NPHR), which is a ratio between input calories and generator output. Higher of NPHR value indicates that the more wasteful use of fuel or vice versa. The high NPHR value is influenced by several factors, one of which is the high auxiliary power value. Auxiliary power is electrical energy that is used to operate the equipment needed in the operation of the plant, such as pump drives, fans, control systems, lighting, and other equipment. Then PT. Adiprima Suraprinta has the innovation of adding a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to Primary Air Fan (PAF), Secondary Air Fan (SAF) and Boiler Feed Water Pump (BFWP) to reduce the value of auxiliary power in the hope of reducing the value of NPHR. Purpose of this research is to analyze and calculate the NPHR value at the Power Plant PT. Adiprima Suraprinta between before and after using VFD with observation method. From this research It was found that after using VFD can decrease in PAF kWh was 7,392 kWh per day, decrease in SAF kWh was 2,190 kWh per day, decrease in BFWP kWh was 3,525 kWh per day, decrease in auxiliary power kWh was 13,537 kWh per day and decrease in NPHR was 551.31 kcal/kWh with a generator output of 18.27 MW. So the addition of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to the equipment in Power Plant is effective enough to reduce value of Net Plant Heat Rate (NPHR) so that it can reduce fuel consumption. Key Word: Auxiliary power, fuel, NPHR, Power Plant, VFD.
