Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how effective gamification is in improving EFL students' ability to write narrative texts. This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. Students were divided into two groups. The control group used a conventional approach, and the experimental group used gamification during the writing learning process. The results showed that, compared to the control group, students who learned with gamification had better narrative text writing skills. It was proven that gamification elements such as points, badges, and challenges increased students' motivation and engagement in the lesson. The results showed that gamification is an effective to enhance EFL students' ability to write narrative texts.
