Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the effectiveness of the AI-based RACE (Role, Action, Context, Execute) Framework in enhancing EFL learners' narrative writing skills. Conducted at SMAN 1 Mojosari, the research employed a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: the experimental group taught using ChatGPT with the RACE Framework and the control group taught using conventional methods. A total of 72 eleventh-grade students participated in the study. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and a questionnaire to measure students' writing performance and motivation. The writing assessments focused on five core components: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The results revealed a significant improvement in the writing performance of students in the experimental group compared to the control group. Statistical analysis using SPSS showed that the AI-based RACE Framework was effective in improving students' ability to write coherent and well-structured narrative texts. Furthermore, the questionnaire indicated that students responded positively to the integration of AI in the classroom, showing higher motivation and engagement in the writing process. The findings suggest that the RACE Framework, when combined with AI tools like ChatGPT, provides a structured and supportive environment that enhances narrative writing skills among EFL learners. This study offers practical insights for educators aiming to integrate AI meaningfully into language learning.
