Abstract

The Kontroversi program episode “Purbaya Vs Everybody” on Metro TV’s YouTube channel presents a discussion of public policy communication within the sphere of digital political communication through various perspectives expressed by the host, speakers, and public responses. This phenomenon reflects the process of meaning construction within media communication practices. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the construction of technopolitical discourse in the “Purbaya Vs Everybody” controversy on the Kontroversi program on Metro TV’s YouTube channel using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model. To achieve this objective, the study employed a qualitative approach using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, which encompasses the dimensions of text, discursive practice, and social practice. The data were collected through documentation of the Kontroversi program episode “Purbaya Vs Everybody” uploaded on Metro TV’s YouTube channel and were analyzed using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis model, with Andrew Feenberg’s technopolitical perspective serving as the interpretative framework. The findings indicate that the construction of technopolitical discourse is formed through three main aspects: the construction of Purbaya’s figure through language choices, data presentation, and interactions among speakers, shifting the discussion beyond the substance of public policy toward the way policy is communicated in the digital public sphere; the construction of the controversy as a discursive arena presenting diverse perspectives on communication and public policy; and the role of digital media as a technopolitical arena that facilitates the production, distribution, consumption, and exchangeofdiscourse amongthemedia, speakers, andthepublic. These findings demonstrate that the representation of Purbaya, the framing of the controversy, and the utilization of digital media are interconnected in shaping the meaning of issues within the realm of digital political communication.
