Abstract

ABSTRACT Wedyastuti, Liska. 2018. An Analysis of English for Specific Purpose Syllabus for Nursing Student’s at STIKES BINA SEHAT PPNI Mojokerto. Skripsi, English Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Universitas Islam Majapahit. Key word: English for Specific Purpose, Need Analysis, Syllabus The aims of this study is describe the syllabus from English lecturer in the class of nursing students STIKES BINA SEHAT PPNI has represented the students’ need or not. This research used Mix - Method. The subjects of the research were Diploma Nursing Study Program of STIKES BINA SEHAT PPNI Mojokerto. There were two ways data used to find the question of the study, first is NA questionnaire data to know what is the nursing students wants in study English subject, then the result will compare in syllabus lecture has made. Second is interview data with head of D3 nursing study program to know whether syllabus made by teacher have fulfilled fission and mission of campus institution by not eliminating the need of student in learning English. The first step was distributing the NA questionnaire to D3 nursing students. The results of questionnaire were used to describe the lecture syllabus does represent the student’s need. Then, the second step was interview with head of D3 nursing study program to know more information about the lecture syllabus does represent the student’s need. Nursing students are think they will need for global competitions in ASEAN 2025. 78% chose to agree that ESP is applied in D3 Nursing study program, but Syllabus made by lecturers still cannot be said 100% using ESP approach, material used by lecturers is not 100% using the medical terms. There are some English materials out of the rules of health terms. Some material that is not in the syllabus is also taught. But the lecturers make syllabus also follow the rules of the head of study programs itself. The reason D3 Nursing study program used 4 credits for English subject is divided into 2 credits of general English and 2 credits of English for nursing as it adapts to the vision mission of D3 Nursing study program which focused on their mission vision of “Professional Critical Nurse in ASEAN 2025”.
