Abstract

The learning process in the 21st era requires a modern learning model, one of which flipped classroom. Flipped classroom is a refuted learning model where students are given video material and students learn at home, when in class the teacher will do an evaluation. In this research, researchers chose YouTube and WhatsApp social media. This research aims (1) to describe the implementation of the flipped classroom by utilizing YouTube and WhatsApp in teaching writing, (2) to know the teacher’s perspective towards the student’s response in implementing the flipped classroom by utilizing YouTube and WhatsApp in teaching writing, (3) to know the challenges in implementing the flipped classroom by utilizing YouTube and WhatsApp in teaching writing. This research used descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was two English teacher in SMKN 1 Mojoagung and SMK Tamansiswa Mojokerto. The researcher used Questionnaire and Interview as Instruments. The researcher used semi-structured interview and open-ended questionnaire. To validate the data, the researcher used triangulation and to validate the instruments the researcher used face validity. The findings of this research showed the procedures of the implementation of flipped classroom learning model. The teacher had positive perspective of using flipped classroom by employing social media in teaching writing, students feel enthusiastic, confident and feel responsible and then with using flipped classroom learning model the learning process becomes fun, so the students don’t feel bored. Flipped classroom is suitable the current curriculum because in this era the learning process already uses technology and also students must be active than the teacher. The results of this research is expected to give significant contribution to others, especially English teachers and future researchers. This research could be useful to know how the implementation of flipped classroom, teacher’s perspective to students response and the teacher challenges using the flipped classroom learning model.
