Abstract

ABSTRACT Edmi Nazem, Olivia. 2021. Exploring Teachers’ Belief in Using Video to Teach English Speaking in Online Learning. Skripsi, English Language Education Faculty of Universitas Islam Majapahit, Advisor (1) Rini Lindawati, M.Pd and Advisor (2) Nurhayati Ganinda, M.Pd. Key words : Teachers’ Beliefs, Using Video, Teach English Speaking. Teacher belief is the belief of a teacher, where those belief is recognized as true and truth. This is the important thing that a teacher must have in teaching to the students. In this thesis, the teachers’ believes in using video to teach speaking in online learning. The teachers must be sure if there is no difference between what is believed and what is applied in teaching, and the teacher gives some explanations so that the teacher is confident in using video in teaching speaking. This reserach aims : (1) to describe of teachers’ belief towards the use of video in teaching English speaking. (2) to describe of teachers’ implementation of teachers’ belief in teaching speaking through online learning. (3) to find out the factors that are contributing to shaping the teachers’ belief. To obtain the data needed, the researcher used basic qualitative research or basic interpretative research and using two teachers as subejct of the reserach. The researcher used semi structured interviews to collect the data, and interview guidelines as instruments of the data. To validate the data, the reseracher used source triangulation. To analyze the data, the researcher used Miles and Huberman (2013), namely data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. The results of this research are categorize into three: (1) teachers are sure to use video to teach speaking, because the teacher explains that using video has a lot of benefits, for students and teachers and can make it easier for teachers to teach speaking using video, and make it easier for students to understand what the teacher teaches by using videos. (2) Teacher belief applied in online learning, from this it can be concluded that there is no difference between what the teacher believes and what is applied when teaching, the teachers uses video to teach speaking to be applied in the classroom according to their beliefs. (3) The factors that shape the teachers' beliefs about using video to teach speaking are from books or journals they have read, and also the teachers' experiences while teaching.
