Abstract

Upgrading Indonesian educational system is not one set system to go, but it is including the whole set of systems which consist of teachers skill, lesson plan and proper student need. The most important part of learning the English language is how to speak well. That means the teachers must be able to speak that language regularly after doing the treatment debate technique. Teachers must deliver the lesson through appropriate teaching learning for the student's understanding. Teaching performance technique is originally the important skill of acquisition language learning for any consideration in education, especially in speaking skill development. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using debate technique on teacher’s speaking skill development. The sample in this study were teacher in MI-Progressive Al-Musthofa. The number of teacher is 10 person. The method used in this research is a quantitative method. In addition, the research design used a pre-experimental using pre-test and post-test scores. The data in the study were in the form of test scores from each sample that had previously been given treatments. Through the assessment of the post-test average results of the two meeting, it was found for the pre￾test 11,9 and 17,90 for the post-test. The result of data which calculated on t-test showed the significance level was 2,303 then significance level of 0.05. From the data result, it showen if significance level 2,303 was higher than significance level 0,05. Thus, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference in use of the strategy. Debate technique is an effective strategy to help teacher speaking skill development.
