Abstract

This research was conducted at SMKN 1 Mojoanyar in the XMM-2 class as the experimental class with 32 students and X-MM1 as the control class with 33 students. There is a problems found by researchers in the class, students have difficulty in writing English. Therefore, researchers use Multimodal Text media to solve that problems in writing English faced by students. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and what effects are caused in the application of Multimodal Text media on students' ability to write narrative text using folktale. The method used in this research is a quantitative method, with pre-experimental research design. The experimental class taught the material through Multimodal Text media, while for the control class taught through Power Point media. The stage of collecting data is Pre-Test, treatment and Post-Test and questionnaire. Pre-Test and Post-Test are calculated using 5 basic components in writing assessment: Content, Organization, Vocabulary, Language Use, and Mechanic. The scores obtained from the assessment of the 5 basic components were then analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results of the Pre-Test and Post-Test calculations showed t-count 4,082 > t-table 1,999 at a significance level of (0,05/2) is 0,025. Furthermore, the hypothesis test shows Sig. (2-tailed) is 0,000 < 0,05 with df 63, this means that Hα is accepted and Ho is rejected. The calculation of validity and reliability on the questionnaire shows that the data used is valid and reliable because of the value of r-count > r-table. Based on this, it can be said that the application of Multimodal Text media is very effective and has a good effect on increasing students' abilities in writing narrative texts using folktale.
