Abstract

This study aims to describe student’s perceptions and the challenges encountered by students in using word wall in learning English. This study used a qualitative case study method and data was obtained using interviews. This case study investigated twenty-five seventh grade C students in a Junior High School. The results of this study show that students have a positive response to the use of digital media word wall in learning English. Digital media using word wall can facilitate students in understanding English lessons. The displays on the word wall can make students more enthusiastic in learning and learning becomes more relaxed and fun. Student’s interested in word wall,includes; word wall is equipped with pictures, animations, and bonus points. In addition, student’s motivation for using word wall includes; students do not experience difficulties in learning, learning becomes more fun, and do not feel bored while learning. Then, the challenges encountered by students include; difficulty accessing, time limit, links cannot be opened, and too difficult to click when using word wall. The research model used by researcher is game-based learning using word wall with quiz gameshow activity. This research is limited in terms of the use of indicator and students pay less attention to internet connections in the use of digital media in learning English. For the future, other researchers can develop this research, especially in terms of expanding indicator, adding quiz activities and special attention to internet connections used by students.
