Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) in the "Poetry and Drama in Language Education" class and its impact on students' speaking skills in the context of learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study used a qualitative approach with observation and interview methods to collect data from students at a university in Mojokerto. The participants of the study were involved in classroom activities that used CRT to relate poetry and drama materials to their cultural experiences and daily lives. The findings showed that the use of CRT significantly increased students' motivation and engagement in class, as well as improving their understanding of poetry and drama materials. This approach also strengthened students' critical thinking and analytical skills through discussions and activities that were relevant to their cultural context. Students reported increased cultural awareness and appreciation of diverse perspectives, which contributed to the formation of an inclusive learning environment. The implementation of CRT in English learning had a positive impact on students' speaking and collaboration skills. The use of culturally relevant materials increased active participation and provided a strong foundation for improving language skills in a meaningful context. This study confirms that CRT is an effective approach to improving student learning outcomes and engagement, and offers valuable insights for future educational applications.
