Abstract

ABSTRAK :Penelitian ini dibuat dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui proses komunikasi dalam forum negosiasi tradisi belis pada pernikahan adat masyarakat Flores Timu serta untuk memahami makna simbolik yang terkandung dalam setiap tahap prosesi Belis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan teori Dell Hymes yang mengedepankan kompetisi komunikatif, peristiwa tutur, tindak tutur dan tindak komunitas tuturdengan fokus penelitian ini mengarah pada makna tradisi Belis dan Proses komunikasi Negosiasi dalam tradisi Belis. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi wawancara, observasi dan dokimentasi, sedangkan teknik pengolahan data meliputi reduksi data, penhujian data dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi komunikatif menjadi kunci dalam menjaga kelancaran proses negosiasi, di mana juru bicara dituntut memahami bahasa, simbol, dan konteks adat secara mendalam. Peristiwa tutur dalam forum belis mencerminkan struktur komunikasi yang diatur ketat berdasarkan tata adat, dan berlangsung dalam tahapan-tahapan seperti perkenalan, peminangan, pertunangan, hingga perkawinan. Tindak tutur yang muncul, khususnya ilokusi dan perlokusi, digunakan untuk menyampaikan maksud secara halus, membujuk, menawar, hingga membentuk kesepakatan. Komunitas tutur yang terlibat dalam forum ini adalah kelompok terbatas yang memiliki otoritas adat untuk berbicara, di mana kesalahan tutur dapat menimbulkan konsekuensi sosial serius. Kata Kunci : Komunikasi, Negosiasi, Penikahan Adat, Belis ABSTRACT This study aimed to understand the communication process within the negotiation forum for the Belis tradition in East Flores traditional weddings and to understand the symbolic meanings contained in each stage of the Belis process. This qualitative study employed Dell Hymes' theory, which emphasizes communicative competition, speech events, speech acts, and speech community actions. The focus of this study was on the meaning of the Belis tradition and the communication process of negotiation within the Belis tradition. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation, while data processing techniques included data reduction, data testing, and data verification. The results indicate that communicative competence is key to maintaining a smooth negotiation process, where the spokesperson is required to have a thorough understanding of the language, symbols, and traditional context. The speech events in the belis forum reflect a strictly regulated communication structure based on customary law, and occur in stages such as introduction, proposal, engagement, and marriage. The speech acts that emerge, particularly illocutionary and perlocutionary acts, are used to subtly convey meaning, persuade, bargain, and form agreements. The speech community involved in this forum is a limited group with customary authority to speak, where speech errors can have serious social consequences.
