Abstract

Writing is a crucial skill in English learning that allows students to express ideas effectively in written form. However, many tenth-grade vocational high school students still face challenges in writing narrative texts, especially in organizing ideas, applying appropriate grammar, and developing coherent stories. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Gamified Think-Pair-Share through Colorful Plane Media in improving students’ writing skills at SMKN 1 Mojoanyar. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The participants were 72 tenth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using pretest and posttest writing assessments and evaluated based on five aspects: content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, a paired sample t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size. The findings showed that students’ writing performance improved after the implementation of the treatment. The mean score increased from 59.62 in the pretest to 82.87 in the posttest. The paired-sample t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05), while the effect size analysis demonstrated a large practical effect. These findings indicate that Gamified Think-Pair-Share through Colorful Plane Media effectively improved students’ narrative writing skills.
