Abstract
This study aims to describe and analyze the communication strategies employed by young Scout leaders to increase students’ interest in Scouting activities at SD Negeri Terusan 3, Gedeg District, Mojokerto Regency, including the supporting and inhibiting factors. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña and examined based on Harold D. Lasswell’s communication model, consisting of communicator (who), message (says what), communication channel (in which channel), audience (to whom), and communication effect (with what effect). The findings show that young Scout leaders act as communicators, facilitators, motivators, and role models. Messages are delivered using simple language, practice, demonstrations, and games, covering Scouting materials as well as values of discipline, responsibility, cooperation, independence, and good manners. Communication channels include face-to-face communication, educational games, teaching aids, visual media, hands-on practice, and rewards. The strategies are adapted to students’ characteristics and varying levels of interest and understanding. The communication effects include increased comfort, participation, ease of understanding the materials, and enthusiasm for Scouting activities. Supporting factors include school support, the relatively close age between leaders and students, and engaging activity methods, while inhibiting factors include differences in student enthusiasm, limited time and facilities, and the challenge of maintaining a balance between closeness and the authority of the leaders. Thus, the communication strategies employed by young Scout leaders are adaptive, combining interpersonal closeness, communicative message delivery, varied communication channels, and adaptation to students’ characteristics to support increased interest in Scouting activities.
