Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze how the children's cooking class program at Lynn Hotel Mojokerto contributes to building the hotel's image as a family hotel. The research is motivated by the gap between the image the hotel wishes to project (wish image) and the image that actually prevails among the public (current image), in which hotels are often perceived merely as places to stay or to hold large events. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on Frank Jefkins' (1995) image theory, particularly the concepts of image types and the process of image formation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving seven informants comprising hotel management, the event organizer, the school, and participating parents, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model and validated through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the children's cooking class program builds a family-hotel image through four stages: information delivery, experience and interaction, perception and interpretation, and image formation. Participants' direct experience proved more effective than conventional promotion in broadening public understanding of the hotel's functions. The resulting image is characterized by a sense of safety, comfort, and suitability for family activities, and shows a high degree of alignment with the hotel's wish image, although it remains limited to the level of program participants. Keywords: children's cooking class, family hotel image, Frank Jefkins, wish image, current image
