Abstract

Nurfebriana, Eka Fitri. 2021. An Analysis of Reading Materials on Student Textbook entitled “Pathway to English 2” for XI Grades of Senior High School. Skripsi, English Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training And Education Faculty of Universitas Islam Majapahit, Advisor (I) Rini Lindawati, M.Pd. and Advisor (II) Deni Mustopa, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. Keywords: Textbook, Reading Comprehension, Reading Material This objective of this research was to find out whether the reading materials on student textbook entitled “Pathway to English 2” for XI grades can meet the good criteria from four aspects: aspects of content, aspect of presentation, aspects of language use and readability and aspects of the relation between chapters by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Ministry of National Education (2015). The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The data would be gathered from document analysis of student textbook entitled “Pathway to English 2” for XI grades. This research used checklist table by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Ministry of National Education (2015). The result showed that the reading materials were compatible with the aspects of content, aspect of presentation, aspects of language use and readability and aspects of the relation between chapters. The reading materials were compatible with the syllabus (Basic competence and Indicators). The textbook presented nine kinds of genre text according to curiculum 2013. With the kinds of genre text, the reading materials had different text with different difficulty. And the passage contains with the simple context and than more complex. The language rules that presented in the reading materials was enough. Almost reading materials each chapter presented the illustration of the reading materials that can make the students interest in Eglish. And the reading task presented about the life skill for the students. The instruction of the reading materials and the task was coherence and cohesive. By the dialogues the students can communication English actively. And some chapters presented same kinds of genre text that contain about gender, religion, race, knowledge, technology and arts. But, this textbook not presented about anatomy. With the result of this research can help the teacher to choose the good textbook for the students in teaching and learning process.
