Abstract

Teacher talk plays an important role in classroom activities in an effort to make the teaching plan successful and achieving the teaching goals. As a teacher of a bilingual school, teachers have to have more ability to gain students interest during classroom activities. The students from various backgrounds must have different skills. Some students have learned English from their parents since their childhood, and there are also some students that have no ability in English at all. This research aims to describe the teacher talk in classroom and to know the obstacles with second grade students of MI Bilingual Roudlotul Jannah. This research is a descriptive qualitative research which used observation and interview to collect the data. The subject of the research is the teacher at second grade and the object is teacher talk in Bilingual classroom interaction at second grade of MI Bilingual Roudlotul Jannah. The instrument used by the researcher to obtain the data are audio – visual recording, interview guideline and observation tally sheet adopted from Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories System (FIACS). The findings showed thatare : (1) teacher was talking more than students, so that the type of teacher talk at second grade of MI Bilingual Roudlotul Jannah is the teacher as tutor include as prompter and resource. (2) The most dominant characteristics in the classroom interaction were teacher support and content cross. (3) There are some obstacles in the classroom interaction such as quite difficult to apply English language and the limitations of students knowing English vocabulary. Unfortunately, the teacher used two language (English – Indonesian) but mostly language that the teacher and the students used was Indonesian language.
