Abstract

Oki Dwi Ariyanti, 51706140012. Improving Students Writing skill through Incorporating Extensive Reading in Applying Four Square Writing Technique. Thesis in English Department Majapahit Islamic University. Advisor (1) Wiwik Mardiana, S.Pd., M.Hum, (II) Amy Krisdiana S.Pd M.Hum. Writing skills are an activity that cannot be separated from teaching and learning activities for students at school. However, in practice many students having difficulty in writing such as developing idea, dealing with grammar, and cohesion. This study aims to determine the improvement of student writing skill through incorporating the reading achievement by using four square writing technique. The sample in this study were student in VIII-grade at MTsN-1 Mojokerto. the number of students is 30 students. The method used in this research is a classroom action research. In adition, the research design used a classroom action research using post test score from treatment class. The data in the study is the form of pre-test and post-test scores from each cycle that had previously been treatment. Through the assesment of the post-test shown that 80% student gained high score during the treatment and teacher given positive statement. Thus, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference in use the four square strategy in teaching writing. Four square treatment is an effective way to improving student’s writing skill achievement. Keywords: four square strategy, writing skill, extensive reading
